This article aims to help you troubleshoot performance issues within the TextFree app as well as TextFree Web after updating to the most recent version. Please read the information below for assistance.

Starting with TextFree version 11.38 or above, you're likely to see more messages and conversations in your inbox than you may have seen in the previous version(s) of the app. This is because we are now storing messages and calls for longer. No longer do you need to worry about your messages or calls being cleared out after deleting and reinstalling the app, we're holding onto them for you.
Issue Symptoms
You're experiencing slowness, lagging, or crashing upon launching the app or moving between conversations.
Conditions
- You're an iOS user
- You're on app version 11.38 or above
- You've recently updated the app
- You may have a lot of messages and conversations in your inbox
Cause and Resolution
You might experience an initial slowness or sluggishness when updating or reinstalling the app if:
- You use the app frequently
- You have a large number of conversations and messages
This is due to the fact that we're working behind the scenes to download all your messages, calls, and voicemails into your conversations.
What you can do
We ask that you simply wait an extra minute or two if you've:
- launched the app for the first time after updating to a new version OR
- reinstalled the app
This will give us time to download and provide you with all your calls and messages. Once they've all been downloaded, any performance-related issues should subside.
If you continue to experience ongoing performance issues (crashing, slowness, lagging, freezing), please let our Support team know by submitting a request.

No longer do you need to worry about your messages or calls being cleared out after deleting and reinstalling the app, we're holding onto them for you.

In our most recent Web version of TextFree, you will see a great deal more messages and conversations in your inbox than you have ever seen before.
This is because we are now storing messages for longer. You no longer need to worry about your messages or calls being cleared out after signing out of TextFree Web; we're holding onto them for you.
Issue Symptoms
You're experiencing slowness, lagging, or crashing upon launching the TextFree Web app or moving between conversations.
Conditions
- You're a TextFree Web user
- You may have a lot of messages and conversations in your inbox
Cause and Resolution
You might experience an initial slowness or sluggishness when updating or reinstalling the app if:
- You use TextFree frequently
- You have a large number of conversations and messages
This is due to the fact that we're working behind the scenes to download all your messages, calls, and voicemails into your conversations.
What you can do
To reduce your risk of experiencing slowness (or other issue symptoms stated above) within the Web version, we suggest the following:
- Only load what conversations you need: If you don't need to view an old conversation, we suggest that you don't load it (by scrolling down) as this will fetch the old data and thus potentially create a slowness in the app.
- The more conversations you load onto the Web version of the app, the greater chance you have at downloading a large amount of content which could create a slowness/lag.
The downside to the information above:
You may see badge notifications on your TextFree app (as if you had a new/unread message) if you do not download all old conversations (but you technically do not have a "new" message)
If there are unread messages in your conversations that you have not downloaded (due to our suggestion in keeping the downloading of the inbox to a minimum to prevent slowness within the Web app), you may see the unread message count (in your inbox and as a badge notification on the app), but can not see the unread messages.
