Note: This article pertains to choosing a local phone number for use with the TextFree app.
When choosing a local phone number to use as your TextFree number, you should first make sure you have location services enabled for TextFree. Otherwise, you will be presented with a list of numbers at random (not necessarily in the area code that you desire).
Please note: Local numbers only apply to US-based numbers.

To turn on Location Services for TextFree:
- Device 'Settings'
- 'General' tab
- Tap 'Apps & notifications'
- Tap 'App permissions'
- Scroll to 'Your location'
- Scroll to 'TextFree' and swipe right to enable location permission (if you do not see it in green currently)
Now, when you access the app to choose a phone number, you'll be presented with area codes available nearest to you.

- Tap 'Location Services'
- Scroll to find TextFree

Allow location access: Tap 'While using the app'
- This means the app will have access to your location only while you use it
