How to create a TextFree mobile account

FYI: We only support service to US and Canadian residents while they are within the United States and Canada at this time. If you reside outside of the US or Canada, you cannot create an account. Additionally, any attempts to log in and/or use the app outside of the US and Canada may result in your account being blocked. 

Creating a TextFree account is simple; you can create a mobile account as long as you meet the requirements seen here. Instructions for Android or iOS are provided in the tabs below. 

Note: TextFree Web accounts CANNOT be created and are unavailable for use at this time (even if you are a new customer with a mobile account).

To create an account, you must meet the following requirements:

• Reside in the United States or Canada.
• An email address that you have access to (so we can verify your account) OR you may use your single sign-on (SSO) login info if you have a Google or Apple account.
  • View the current SSO options & limitations before creating an account.
• Meet the minimum device requirements seen here. 

FYI: While we don't require a mobile number to create a TextFree account, we do require a valid email that you have access to for verification purposes. If you cannot verify your email during registration, you will be unable to move forward with creating an account.

Step 1: Download and choose sign-up method 

1. Download & install TextFree for Android.
   • Check the minimum device requirements to download and use TextFree HERE.
   • Note: You'll need to download the app from the App Store to ensure you're on the most recent version. If not, you'll receive an error.
2. On the Create Account screen, select your preferred sign-up option:
   • Continue with Google* - this option will use single sign-on to create an account & for future logins.
   • Continue with Email - this option will use your current email address to sign up and for future logins.

*Google sign-up: This option uses your current Google password, thus, you will not be required to create a TextFree password. 

Step 2: Verify your email (Email Sign-Up Option)

If you want to use your email as a login method: 

1. Enter your EMAIL to receive a 6-digit verification code for email validation, then tap Continue to send the verification.
2. View your email inbox and open the message from TextFree. It will contain a verification code.
3. Return to the TextFree app and enter the verification code, then tap Continue. 

Important: Email verification is required to create an account. If you are unable to verify your email, you cannot move forward with creating an account. 

Step 3: Enter password & choose your number 

Once you've verified your email:

1. Create a STRONG Password. Enter your password and ensure your password meets the requirements seen here, then tap Continue.
2. On the "Let's find you a local number" screen, tap Continue.
3. You'll then need to allow the app access to your location (so you can choose a local number).
   1. A pop-up will prompt you to "Allow TextFree to use your location?"
   2. Tap Allow.
4. On the Choose Area Code screen, enter your desired area code, then tap Continue.
5. You will then be presented with a list of numbers you can choose from (or you can search for a specific number set to see if available)
6. Pick a number from the list, then select Confirm Number.
7. On the "No Emergency Calls" pop-up, tap "I Understand" once you've read & agreed. This will complete the signup process and take you to your TextFree inbox.

Tips:

• Be sure to save your login credentials for future logins.
• Ensure you've allowed permissions for TextFree app so you'll receive calls and texts to ensure the app works as intended.

   • Note: You'll need to download the app from the App Store to ensure you're on the most recent version. If not, you'll receive an error.
2. On the Create Account screen, select your preferred sign-up option (choose one):
   • Continue with Apple* - this option will use single sign-on to create an account & for future logins.
   • Continue with Google* - this option will use single sign-on to create an account & for future logins.
   • Continue with Email - this option will use your current email address to sign up & for future logins.

*Google or Apple sign-up: This option uses your current Google or Apple password, thus, you will not be required to create a TextFree password.
