How to create a TextFree mobile account

FYI: We only support service to US and Canadian residents while they are within the United States and Canada at this time. If you reside outside of the US or Canada, you cannot create an account. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Creating a TextFree account is simple; you can create a mobile account so as long as you meet the requirements seen here. Instructions for each are provided in the tabs below.

To create an account, you must meet the following requirements:

• Reside in the United States or Canada.
• An email address that you have access to (so we can verify your account) OR you may use your single sign-on (SSO) login info if you have a Google or Apple account.
  • View the current SSO options & limitations before creating an account.

FYI: While we don't require a mobile number to create a TextFree account, we do require a valid mobile carrier for verification purposes. The verification process confirms that you are located within the United States or Canada and using a non-VoIP number. If you cannot verify your account, you will be unable to use TextFree.

To create an account for Android mobile: 

1. Download & install TextFree for Android.
   • Check the minimum device requirements to download and use TextFree HERE. 
2. On the Welcome to TextFree screen, select your preferred sign-up option (choose one):
   • Continue with Google* - this option will use single sign-on to create an account & for future logins. 
   • Continue with Email - this option will use your current email address to sign up & for future logins.

*Google sign-up: This option uses your current Google password, thus you will not be required to create a TextFree password. 

Step 2: Set up an account & choose your number 

1. After you have selected your sign-up method, you'll need to allow the app access to your location (so you can choose a local number).
   1. A pop-up will prompt you to "Allow TextFree to access this device's location?"
   2. Tap Allow.
2. On the Choose Your Number screen, enter your desired area code, then tap Continue. 
3. You will then be presented with a list of numbers you can choose from (or you can search for a specific number set to see if available)
4. Pick a number from the list, then select Choose this Number.
5. Next, please enter the following information:
   1. The email you'd like to be associated with your account. (Use an email you have access to so you can verify your account.)
   2. Create Password. (Ensure your password meets the requirements seen here.)
   3. Gender (optional).
6. Tap Sign Up when you have completed the steps above. 

Tip: After creating an account, we highly recommend verifying your account should you ever forget your password and need help logging in.

Step 1: Download TextFree iOS and choose your sign-up method

1. Download & install TextFree for iOS. 
   • Check the minimum device requirements to download and use TextFree HERE. 
2. On the Welcome to TextFree screen, select your preferred sign-up option (choose one):
   • Continue with Apple* - this option will use single sign-on to create an account & for future logins. 
   • Continue with Email - this option will use your current email address to sign up & for future logins.

Step 2: Set up an account & choose your number

   • Tap Allow.
2. On the Choose Your Number screen, enter your desired area code, then tap Continue.

4. Pick a number from the list, then select Choose this Number.
   • Tap Confirm if you are happy with the number you chose.
5. Next, please enter the following information:
   1. The email you wish to be associated with your account. (Be sure that you have access to this email.)
   2. Create Password. (Ensure your password meets the requirements seen here.)
   3. Gender (optional).
6. Tap Confirm Account when complete.
7. Click "I understand" on the pop-up to complete the signup process and be taken to your inbox.

Tip: After creating an account, we highly recommend verifying your account should you ever forget your password and need help logging in.

Important:

• If you're on iOS version 14 or above, enabling microphone permission is required to receive incoming phone calls to TextFree.
• Be sure to save your login credentials for future logins.
• Be sure to confirm that you have allowed notifications from the TextFree app so that you won't miss any calls or texts.
