Why do we need your location to verify your account?
Sometimes our systems flag accounts by mistake. Sharing your location helps us quickly confirm you’re a real user and restore your access.
How location verification works
Our app uses automated systems to detect fraudulent or abusive behavior and protect users on the platform. Occasionally, these systems may block a legitimate account — for example, if unusual activity was detected on your network or device.
When this happens, we can use your device’s location to perform a quick verification through a trusted third-party partner. The check analyzes location and device behavior to determine whether your account is authentic, without requiring you to contact support.
Once the check is complete, access is typically restored right away if everything looks good.
Note: We only request location verification when your account has been restricted. This check is optional, but without it, you’ll need to submit a request to our customer support team for manual review, which may take longer.
How to enable location permissions (iOS)
- Open the Settings App (tap the gray Settings icon on your home screen or app library).
- Scroll down and tap the TextFree app (scroll past the system settings until you find the TextFree app in the list, then tap it).
- Tap “Location”
- Select “While Using the App” or “Always” (either will work for verification)
- Enable “Precise Location” (make sure the Precise Location toggle is turned on—this is required for the verification check to work correctly)
- Return to the app (the verification check will run automatically in the background)
How to enable location permissions (Android)
