TextFree Web allows you to send and receive messages from your Web browser, instead of using the mobile app. Please note that the TextFree app is required to sign in and access web messaging.
Note: TextFree Web does not support texting to international numbers or 5-digit shortcode numbers. To send or reply to supported international numbers or shortcode numbers, please use the mobile app instead.
Text Messages (SMS)
Compose a new message:
- Tap the compose button at the top-right of the screen to compose a new message.
- In the name or number field, enter the number or contact name, then press Enter (or Tab).
- The number/name will turn gray if you've entered the recipient info correctly. If the name/number is blue, please press enter or tab.
- You can add up to 10 recipients to a group message.
- Type your message into the text box.
- Press the
(or enter on your keyboard) to send the new message.
Using Voice to Text (optional)
You can use "Voice to Text" on Web to send text messages using dictation. Microphone permission and access are required.
- Click the
microphone icon to the right of the text box.
- Allow microphone access by selecting "Allow while visiting the site" (if you haven't done so already)
- Start speaking (your message will appear in the text box), then when you want to send the message, click the send button (or press enter).
FYI: You cannot send audio messages via Index Web; however, you may receive and listen to them. To send an audio message, please use the mobile app.
To send a new message:
- Sign into TextFree Web using your mobile app
- Click the "Compose" button (top-right)
- Enter the contact name to search or enter the complete number into the To: field
- Locate & click the contact/number from the drop-down list or type in the number you want to send a message to
- Without clicking out of the number field, press your enter/return key (important). The name/number displays in purple when successfully added to the new message
- Type your message into the text message field
- Once you've composed the message, click the "up arrow" or press 'Enter' to send the message
Note: If you use TextFree for mobile, those contacts don't automatically sync to TextFree Web, thus you will not be able to search (seen in step #3 above) unless there is an existing message in your inbox. Learn how to automatically sync your contacts using our Google Contacts sync feature.
To send a message to an existing conversation:
- Locate the existing conversation in your inbox and click on it
- Type your text message into the text field
- When done, click the "up arrow" button to send
To rename the conversation:
- Click on the small triangle
to the right of their number to view contact edit options > Click rename
- Other options: Set Text Tone, Delete Conversation, or Block Number
Important to note: Sending videos through TextFree Web is NOT supported. Videos must be sent via the TextFree mobile app.
