Spam Management Features

TextFree's Spam Management features help you identify what incoming phone calls could be spam. You will be notified of potential spam on the incoming caller ID screen, as well as in your inbox after a missed call or voicemail from an unknown number.

With Spam Filtering, you can automatically send those unwanted spam calls and unknown numbers straight to voicemail.

Please note: While Spam Recognition is available to all TextFree users, the Spam Filtering feature requires a TextFree Plus subscription.

How to recognize a Spam call

1. Incoming call Screen

An incoming call that TextFree has identified as spam will display with "Spam" then the number that is calling you.

2. Inbox

"Spam" will be below the number in your TextFree inbox.

3. Conversation 

If you're in a one-on-one conversation, "Spam" will appear below the incoming phone number.

Can I remove a call marked as "spam?"

If you have a call marked as spam that is actually a legitimate number, you can remove the "spam" label. To do so: 

1. Enter the conversation with the number that is marked "spam" 
2. Send a message or call the user.
3. The spam label will be removed once step #2 is completed.

Spam Filtering 

Spam filtering is a setting in TextFree that includes a variety of features to help manage spam calls. You have the following options, which can be toggled on and off:

1. Silence Spam Calls
2. Silence All Unknown Calls
3. Hide Spam Calls

Silence Spam Calls

This feature automatically silences spam calls and sends them straight to voicemail, without ringing. The calls are displayed in your inbox for review, so you know exactly what calls were filtered and when.

Please note: If a call from a known number does not have "Spam" attached to the caller ID, the call will ring through as normal.

This feature is automatically enabled for TextFree Plus users. If you are not yet subscribed to TextFree Plus, click here for more information on how to subscribe.

If you'd prefer to disable Spam Filtering, here are the steps to follow:

1. Open the TextFree app Settings.
2. Scroll down and tap on Spam Filtering.
3. Tap to toggle Spam Filtering off.

Silence All Unknown Calls

With the "Silence All Unknown Calls" setting, you can now send spam AND all calls from unsaved numbers straight to voicemail.

Note: Contacts permission is required to utilize this feature. 

Hide Spam Calls

This setting lets you hide spam calls from the inbox. This can help to keep your inbox clean and minimize clutter. This option can always be toggled off if you decide you'd like to see the spam call logs.
