How to block a number

Note: If your account is blocked/restricted and you'd like to submit your account details for our Support team to review, please fill out the form HERE. 

IF YOU ARE RECEIVING HARASSING OR THREATENING TEXTS OR CALLS, AND YOU BELIEVE YOU ARE IN PHYSICAL DANGER, CONTACT YOUR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT IMMEDIATELY.

Using our services for abusive behavior is explicitly against our terms and conditions. Anyone caught harassing or threatening others will have their account disabled immediately.

What to do if you are being harassed:

Email [e-mail] and let our support team know about any TextFree users that are abusing our service (please provide their TextFree number as well)

Important: If you need to block a group conversation and/or private, restricted, or unknown numbers, please reach out to support team and we can further assist you since these types of blocks cannot be handled through the app.

Note:

• We cannot block a specific area code, only specific numbers.
• Tip: Take screenshots of the offending text message(s)/calls BEFORE you block a number/contact. We cannot export or send copies of your message or call history before or after blocking a number so please be sure to save any info for your records.
• If you don't remember the number you've blocked, please reach out to our support team by submitting a request and include your TextFree number and the approximate date and time you set the block.

If you're a Pinger user and would like to block a number:

From the inbox:

1. Set the block from your Inbox by swiping left on the conversation
2. Tap 'Block'
3. Confirm the block by tapping 'block' for a second time

Please Note: Blocking the contact will not remove the conversation from the inbox 

To block a number from the address book: 

If you don't have an active conversation with the contact, you can block them from the address book. 

1. Tap on 'Address Book'
2. Tap on the name/number of the contact you wish to block
3. Tap on the three vertical dots on the upper righthand corner
4. Tap 'Block'

Items to note: 

• Messages sent from a blocked number will appear as though the message is sent, but are undeliverable.
• The caller from the blocked number will hear a continuous ring without going to voicemail.

If you are NOT using our services, and you'd like to block a TEXTFREE NUMBER:

1. Take a screenshot of the offending text message(s)/calls, before following the additional steps.
2. Text STOP to the number you wish to block. Do not include anything else in this message (be sure to remove any signature in the message).
   • Note: Typing in any of the following commands will also work to opt out of receiving messages: BLOCK, QUIT, END, CANCEL, REVOKE, OPTOUT, OPT-OUT, UNSUBSCRIBE.
   • These commands can be typed in uppercase or lowercase.
3. We will auto-reply back to you with a message asking you to confirm. Once you confirm, this will completely block this user from sending messages to you. They will be unaware that you’ve set a block against them.
4. We will auto-reply to you again with a confirmation that the block is in place.

You can lift a block at any time by sending a message to the number/contact you've blocked.

If you're a TextFree user and would like to block a number:

From your inbox:
